Long or short
A perpetual future, or “perp”, is a contract that follows an asset’s price without an expiry date. Go long if you expect the price to rise, short if you expect it to fall.
Leverage, in numbers
With $100 of margin at 5x leverage you control a $500 position. A 10% move in your favour is about $50 profit; a 10% move against you is about $50 loss, and a move of roughly 20% against you can liquidate the whole margin.
Funding payments
Perps use small periodic funding payments between longs and shorts to keep the contract close to the spot price. They are shown in the app.
