USDT and USDC are tokens designed to track the US dollar one to one. Many people in Ghana keep part of their savings in them as a simple way to hold value in dollars without watching every move of the exchange rate.
A dollar balance, not a bank account
A stablecoin balance in Sparkling is a dollar balance on your phone. It is not a bank account and it is not insured by a bank, so it is worth understanding how it works before you rely on it.
USDT or USDC?
Both aim to stay at $1. USDT is the most widely traded stablecoin; USDC is issued by Circle and publishes regular reserve reports. Many users hold a little of each.
Once you hold a dollar balance, the same account opens up other markets — for example, you can buy US stocks with your USDT or explore everything the Sparkling app in Ghana offers.
